Frequently Asked Questions

After many years, we've learned a thing (or twelve) about how to make this day smooth, easy and fun.

When is the Mapleton Hill Rummage Sale?

The Mapleton Hill Rummage Sale (MHRS) is a one-day neighborhood-wide event held annually. Check the HOME page for this year's date and schedule.

Where are the sales located?

Sales are hosted exclusively by Mapleton Hill residents and can be found throughout the neighborhood, generally within Broadway to 4th Street and Spruce Street to Alpine Avenue. Check the MAP AND DIRECTORY tab to see which addresses are hosting and read about each home's unique offerings.

How do I find participating homes?

The official Shoppers Map and Guide will be available approximately three days before the event. We recommend printing a copy or saving it to your smartphone so you can easily navigate from sale to sale.

What's the best way to plan my route?

Many shoppers head straight for the areas with the highest concentration of sales. If you're looking to beat the crowds and score the best finds early, consider starting on the outer edges of the map and working your way inward.

Where should I park?

Parking in Mapleton Hill can be limited during the event. Whenever possible, park nearby and walk or bike into the neighborhood. It's a great way to explore the area and carry home your treasures.

Please note: The City of Boulder may enforce parking regulations during the event, and illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed.

What time can I find the best bargains?

Early birds often find the most sought-after items, but bargain hunters may have better luck later in the day. After the morning rush (typically after 10:00 a.m.) some sellers may be more willing to negotiate prices.

Participants are encouraged to remain open until 2:00 p.m., though individual sale hours may vary.

Should I bring cash?

Yes. Cash is still king at many sales. While some participants may accept digital payment options such as Venmo, availability varies by household.

Should I bring bags?

Absolutely! Reusable shopping bags, backpacks, wagons, and baskets can make it much easier to carry your newfound treasures throughout the day.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The Mapleton Hill Rummage Sale is held rain or shine and is unlikely to be rescheduled due to weather. Keep your fingers crossed for sunshine, but come prepared for changing Colorado conditions.

Can I bring my bike?

Definitely. Biking is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to navigate the neighborhood during the sale. Just remember to follow local traffic laws and secure your bike when stopping to shop.

Who organizes the event?

The Mapleton Hill Rummage Sale is organized by neighborhood volunteers who donate their time and energy to continue this long-standing community tradition. It is not operated by a business or nonprofit organization.

For residents only:

Can I register after the deadline?

Registration deadlines help volunteers prepare maps, listings, signage, and event materials. If you missed the deadline, contact the organizers as soon as possible and we'll do our best to help, though inclusion in printed materials cannot be guaranteed.

Will there be Goodwill Bins?

We are working with our friends at Goodwill to have a collection site in the neighborhood for items that didn't sell and need to go. These are placed and open AFTER the sale. Please stay tuned on location and hours
